Tim Maia - Contacto Com O Mundo Racional. Tim Maia is best known for his raspy, soulful voice, his jolly demeanor, and of course, his controversial personality. After a complicated beginning in the psych rock scene as well as a marijuana arrest and deportation back to Brasil, he soon found his groove in lighthearted, playful soul music. Today’s selection comes from his middle years, in which his obsession with the pseudo-religious sect Universo em Desencanto peaks, ultimately culminating in 2 oft-overlooked albums, Racional Vol. 1 & 2. Although “Contacto Com O Mundo Racional” takes a somewhat nihilist view on the world, the music (especially Maia’s falsetto) is beautiful and inspiring in its own way.
