Dexter Wansel - Theme From The Planets. This is the first post that somewhat deals with the theme of outer space exploration, a subject I am very fond of. Wansel, known primarily for his production and writing work with stars like Patti Labelle, also put out his own abstract, experimental style soul records, defining much of the sound of PRI (Philadelphia Records International). His 1976 album, Life On Mars, set the tone for the beginnings of highly synthesized soul. This particular selection, “Theme From The Planets,” is a funky yet almost smooth jazz tune, complete with Wansel’s trademark keyboard riffs and a heavily orchestrated sound. It’s sure to soothe and cool you off after a busy day.

Plus, just look at that album cover! Nothing says bad boy mack quite like that.
