David T. Walker - Never Can Say Goodbye. Ah, the sweet sound of soul guitar. Much like Jim Gilstrap, David T. Walker is a virtually unknown name that most everyone has heard at some point. His work on rhythm guitar can be heard on records by Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, Barry White, and Diana Ross. Although very technically capable, Walker’s main talent comes from being able to make his guitar act as if it were a vocal lead. In other words, and to overuse a cliché, he really makes his guitar sing. In this sense, “Never Can Say Goodbye” may not be an incredible technical feat, but rather demonstrates quite well that complexity does not always yield better results. Sometimes you just have to listen to what’s inside.
