Demis Roussos - Action Lady. Who knew that inside the cover of an album more reminiscent of Kenny Loggins, lay an incredibly funky soundtrack of a semi-operatic Greek crooner. Roussos, who started his career as a progressive rock artist, soon branched out to the pop music of the ’70s. The album, entitled Souvenirs, is a testament to his ability to cover broad genres, and more importantly, make them work for his vocal style. While most of the songs are folky in nature, “Action Lady” and a few other choice cuts stand out as the obvious odd songs out. Regardless, they are amazingly well executed songs that just feel like they belong. “Action Lady” could easily compete with the best blaxploitation soundtracks. It is also a strong statement in support of the popular logic: never judge a book record by its cover.
