Millie Jackson - A Child of God (It’s Hard to Believe). These days, Millie is best known for the cover of her 1989 album Back to the S__t. This is somewhat of a shame for the powerful Georgia bred belter. Millie can be characterized as the rough underbelly of the typically classy soul music. With songs like “The Phuck U Symphony” in her repertoire, which lashes out against phonies and supposed poseurs, it’s easy to pigeonhole her form into some imaginary lower class of music. However, though her music may tackle serious subjects with crass language and innuendo, the end product is surprisingly real and heartfelt. To me, she is the only true, down to earth, working class diva.
